Free Beginners Taekwon-Do Trial
Kāpiti Coast, Raumati South
This Term, Skip Another Activity Nobody Sticks With.
Give Your Family a White Belt Instead.
If walking into a Taekwon-Do hall feels intimidating, I understand that completely.
I know how daunting it can be to try something like this, even when it's a thing you've wanted to do for years. That's why I'm opening a free two-week trial for beginners at Kāpiti Coast TaeKwon-Do Club.
Starts: Tuesday, 18 August
Days: Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 8:00pm
Duration: 4 sessions over 2 weeks
Location: Memorial Hall, Tennis Court Rd, Raumati South
Cost: Free
Who: Families welcome, all ages, no experience needed
Many parents love the idea of Taekwon-Do for their kids. Confidence, focus, respect, it all sounds good on paper. Some picture doing it as a family.
Discover how one two-week trial can shift your family's confidence, even if none of you have ever set foot on a mat before.
Then there's that moment at the door.
New hall. New faces. No real idea what actually happens once the class starts.
And it feels easier to turn around and stick with the usual routine.
You've probably thought about trying martial arts before.
Maybe you've heard what it can do for a young person's confidence and self-esteem, and you want your own kids to have that too. Or you've watched someone train and thought, "I'd love to try that, but where would I even start?"
Most people who want to try martial arts never actually start. They think they need to be fitter first. They worry they'll look out of place next to students who've been training for years. They're wary of getting hurt, or of committing to something they might not enjoy.
Those concerns make sense, especially if you're a parent bringing your child along for the first time, or thinking about joining in yourself.
They wait.
They wait until they're "in better shape."
They wait until they have more time.
They wait until they feel "ready."
But here's the truth.
You're already ready.
Every black belt training at our club right now started exactly where you are, a complete beginner who felt nervous walking in for the first class.
The difference is they showed up anyway.
This is probably the biggest myth about martial arts. People think they need to get fit before they can train. Our beginners group meets you exactly where you are, no fitness test at the door.
This trial was built to clear every one of those away. Low pressure. Beginners only. Built so you and your family can feel, "we can actually do this."
For the whole two-week trial, you'll only be training alongside other people who are just starting out too. No intimidation factor.
Step onto the mat yourself, or watch from the side while your child finds their feet. Either way, you're there together.
No dobok, no fees, nothing to buy before you've even decided whether this is for your family.
It's four sessions over two weeks. You decide what happens after that.
Kate, training with her own kids
My name is Kate Taylor, and I run Kāpiti Coast TaeKwon-Do Club.
I've seen it at the door of our hall more times than I can count. Parents who want this for their family, standing there, working up the nerve to walk in.
That's exactly why I opened this beginners-only trial, so new starters, parents included, get to learn together in their own group, without anyone feeling like the odd one out.
Every ITF Taekwon-Do beginner works through the same building blocks, whatever their age or fitness. Over your four sessions, expect to be introduced to things like:
Nobody's expected to get any of this perfect in week one. We start slow, build gradually, and focus on making sure you feel comfortable at every step, whether you're 8 or 48, shy or outgoing, fit or just starting out.
Exactly what we cover and how fast we move on any given night is my call, based on who's on the floor.
Here's the deal.
Try these four sessions. If you don't feel more confident after the first class, if your child doesn't enjoy it, or if this isn't right for your family for any reason at all, just let us know and that's the end of it. No questions asked.
You won't owe anything. You won't be pressured to keep going. It's entirely on your terms.
It's four sessions over two weeks. Show up in something comfortable to move in, leave the nerves at the door, and give it a go.
No long-term commitment. No cost. No pressure.
The question isn't whether you or your family are ready for Taekwon-Do. It's whether you're ready to stop wondering and go find out.
